02 / Life & perspective

Plenty of road ahead.

Some images wait years before revealing what they mean. A reflection on turning sixty, and the people along the way.

The number 60 painted on the road beneath the trees of Middachten Allee
Middachten Allee. The photograph that found its meaning.

Years ago I took a photo on the Middachten Allee. Our home is on the road it becomes. A place that has meant so much to Tanja and me—and to so many of you. Many of you have sat around our kitchen table over the years. If it could speak…

I liked the symmetry, the perspective and, admittedly, the giant “60” painted on the road. At the time it was just a photograph. Funny how some images wait years before revealing what they mean.

On 2 August 2026, I turned sixty.

Looking back, I’m especially grateful for the people I’ve met, the things we’ve built together, and everything I’ve been able to learn along the way. For the chapters we’ve written together.

I’ll raise a glass to all of you—and in remembrance of the family, teachers and friends who are no longer with us.

Looking ahead, I don’t see a finish line. I see another stretch of road. And that’s exactly where I want to be. Plenty of road ahead!
